Justification: An epiphytic or terrestrial bromeliad endemic to Ecuador. Four of the collections are from the Sabanillas paramo, between Loja and Zamora-Chinchipe, in high-Andean forest. One subpopulation has been recorded in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus where it is terrestrial in the shrubby paramo. The principal threats are conversion of forest to croplands, reforestation with Pinus radiata and fires set by humans. |
