Justification: A terrestrial bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from six records in Sucumbiós province. Three were collected in small waterfalls on the Borja-Gonzalo Pizarro road and three others were collected in the surroundings of the San Rafael waterfall. The species' habitat is exclusively near waterfalls or in very wet areas with flowing water. Not known to occur in Ecuador’s protected areas network but could be present in similar habitats of the Reserva Ecológica Cayambe-Coca. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species. |
