Justification:
An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador where it is known from four subpopulations in an area smaller than 20,000 km². One is in the Cordillera de Cutucú and three are in the Cordillera del Cóndor. The principal threats are deforestation produced by colonization, timber extraction and mining. Highly threatened because of its ornamental value which has made it highly collected in the wild for commercial use. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but may occur inside similar habitats in the Parque Nacional Podocarpus.
