Justification:
An epiphytic or terrestrial bromeliad endemic to Andean Ecuador. Known from four subpopulations in the southeast of the country: on the Sígsig-Chigüinda road at an altitude of 2,500 m; near Limón in the region of Antenas; on the Yangana-Valladolid road at an altitude of 2,800 m; and on Cerro Toledo inside the Parque Nacional Podocarpus. At least two subpopulations are threatened by deforestation and agriculture. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.

Range Description: Guzmania atrocastanea is endemic to Ecuador. It is known from four subpopulations in Loja, Morona-Santiago, Pastaza and Zamora-Chinchipe provinces.
