Justification: An epiphytic bromeliad endemic to Ecuador. Forms dense groups joined by stolons covering trees left standing in pastures and forest remnants. One subpopulation has been recorded in both Napo and Zamora-Chinchipe and the other three known subpopulations are from Morona-Santiago where the type was collected. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but may be found in similar habitats of the Parque Nacional Sangay. The principal threat is forest conversion to croplands. Recently transferred to the genus Neoregelia (Leme 1997). |
