This treelet, endemic to Ecuador and known from a single collection in Guayaquil in the first half of the nineteenth century, is a strong candidate for the Extinct category. Forests around Guayaquil, now the largest city in Ecuador, have been totally destroyed since the species' discovery. Unless a detailed search of the Tournefortia specimens in the Guayaquil herbaria turns up a new record, the only thing left of the species may be a botanical specimen in the London Museum. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
Date last seen: 19th century
