A shrub endemic to the southern Ecuadorian Andes, where it is known from two collections with scarce locale information ("Cuenca-Huigra" and "Tipococha"). No recent collections exist. Before receiving a IUCN category, this name needs a thorough taxonomic evaluation. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums.

Range Description: Berberis reicheana is endemic to Ecuador. It is known from only two collections in Azuay and Cañar provinces.
