A shrub endemic to Ecuador. The only collection located mentions the "south of Ecuador" (probably Azuay). This name needs a critical taxonomic evaluation before its conservation status can be determined. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
