Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from two recent collections in the Amaluza paramos, Loja province, and an old collection in Chillacocha. May be threatened by the Jimbura-Zumba road construction. The author of the species is studying the genus for the Flora of Ecuador and the conservation status of this species will depend on the evaluation of non-identified Ecuadorian material. Considered Data Deficient for the time being. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
