Justification:
A vine endemic to Ecuador and known only from the type specimen, collected by K. Hartweg in the first half of the nineteenth century. The label mentions "In montibus Loxa", apparently referring to mountains around the city of Loja, but no altitude nor ecological information is mentioned. Apparently the species was abundant in the area, because in the original publication there are several synonyms with the same locale description and another labeled "In montibus Chuquiribamba". The current location of the type specimen is unknown, which may indicate a confused taxonomy rather than rarity or extinction. The principal threats are habitat destruction due to grazing and disorganized colonization. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
