Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from one collection from 1943, recorded along the Patul River, between the Hacienda Yubay and the Hacienda San José de Caimotán, near Sanaguín, in Azuay province. Not known to occur in Ecuador's protected areas network. No botanical specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorian museums. Habitat destruction is the only known threat to the species.
