Justification:
Despite its very wide distribution range its (sub)populations are disjunct and locally rare. It occurs in regions where ongoing deforestation may have an impact on this species, even though there is no direct evidence that this particular species has declined.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: Brazil (south of the Amazon Basin, Roraima); Venezuela. Its large range (EOO calculated on the basis of mapped herbarium collections = 4,277,040 km2) spans across the Amazon Basin, where no conifers are known to occur. It is possible that it will be found in other regions and countries, such as the Guyanas, when surveys of the floras of tropical South America approach a more complete covering than is the case at present. The presently known range is based on 22 collections giving 13 localities.

Habitat and Ecology: Cerrado, gallery forest along streams, both “tall forest” and “dwarf forest”, often on sandstone. In Venezuela it is reported from montane forest, usually along streams. Elevation (from GIS) 266 to 1,828 m, from herbarium data: 825 to 1,600 m

Conservation Actions: This species is recorded from several protected areas throughout its range including Canaima National Park in Venezuela and the Brazilian Cerrado Protected Areas Chapada dos Veadeiros and Emas National Park.
