Range Description: Z. vazquezii is known from Mexico, where it occurs in Veracruz state.

Population: Z. vazquezii is known from two subpopulations, but there are no more than 50 plants in the wild and deforestation in northern Veracruz is still rampant. The population is definitely severely fragmented? The last survey was more than a decade ago so the situation may have detiorated.

Habitat and Ecology: This species grows in semi-evergreen forests to pine-oak forests.

Conservation Actions: This species is listed on Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Wild populations are somewhat protected from over-collection because the species is very common in cultivation, where it also produces copious quantities of cones and grows quite rapidly from seed.
