A widespread species, which although it has declined in places due to habitat destruction, it is not considered to be threatened. The species is therefore listed as Least Concern.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: This species occurs in southern Queensland, Australia, where it is found from around Brisbane north to Nambour. Old records from New South Wales are now known to represent juvenile plants of M. johnsonii, although a single recent collection from the Border Ranges extends the range into far northern New South Wales. Recorded at elevations ranging from 30 up to 600 m asl.

Population: This species is found in more than 30 subpopulations and there are many plants.
Population Trend: Decreasing

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: Populations are found growing in coastal and near-coastal mountain ranges, and in Queensland it extends to some mountain ranges well inland from the coast. Plants are found scattered and sporadic in coastal wet sclerophyll forest.

Conservation Actions: This species is listed on Appendix II of the CITES Appendices. Plants occur in the Pottsville Nature Reserve.
