Justification:
This subspecies has a restricted extent of occurrence. However, more critically, the population is inferred to have declined by more than 50% in the last 40 years (3 generations) due to habitat loss at an equal or slightly higher rate. The decline in M. s. aurifrons populations is expected to continue into the future as habitat is suspected to be lost at the same rate. The subspecies is also threatened from being exploited for the pet industry.
History:
2004 Endangered
2000 Vulnerable
