Pancheria humboldtiana is an endemic small tree/shrub of the southern part of Grande-Terre (restricted to Monts Humboldt and Kouakoué) in New Caledonia. It is found in montane shrubland on ultramafic substrates. This species does not seem directly threatened because of its montane habitat. Pancheria humboldtiana is considered Near Threatened (NT) as it is close to qualifying for Vulnerable (VU) under criterion D2 because of its small area of occupancy (AOO) of 16 km² and the potential future impacts of climate change.

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): This species does not seem directly threatened because of its montane habitat. Climate change is a potential threat to high elevation species.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: Unprotected by legislation, this species is found in two protected areas: Massif du Kouakoué and Mont Humboldt. Monitoring of the population is recommended in order to investigate the potential impact of climate change on this type of montane species. In particular, the changes in the altitudinal limits between forest and shrubland should be monitored..
