| Range Description: | The typical variety is confined to a single inaccessible rocky outcrop on St. Lucia. Variety lucayana is more widespread, being recorded from the Bahamas, Cuba, Haiti (now extinct there) and Jamaica. However, it is now rare in Cuba because of past overexploitation is rarely seen in the Bahamas. |

| Population: | Overcutting in the past and overgrazing today have led to the confinement of the species to an inaccessible rocky outcrop, where it occurs in a dwarfed form. It is thought that forms growing to 15 m were more frequent at one time. |
