Known only from the southern slope of Haleakala on Maui and the slopes on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on Hawaii. The total population of C. lindseyana is less than 700 individuals. 15 subpopulations have been recorded, each containing no more than 250 mature individuals. The remaining plants are threatened by alien plants, cattle, goats, pigs and rats.
