This species is listed as Least Concern in because of its wide distribution, and although it is relatively rare it occurs in many protected areas, and because it is unlikely to be declining at nearly the rate required to qualify for listing in a threatened category.

Range Description: This is a lowland species; it occur in the Amazonian region of eastern Ecuador, northern Peru, and southeast Colombia east across south Venezuela and adjacent Brazil to the vicinity of Manaus, west of Rio Negro (Woods and Kilpatrick, 2005).

Population: In Ecuador this species is uncommon (D. Tirira pers. comm.) and in Venezuela it is rare when sympatric with P. guyannensis (J. Ochoa pers. comm.).
