Minyichthys sentus is assessed as Data Deficient. The species is only known from four specimens, and therefore no reliable assessment of the species can be made. Further research is needed to properly assess the status of the species, including a concerted search effort to confirm it is not extinct.

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description:This species is known from three specimen collections from 1930: one from the western Mediterranean near Gibraltar and the others from the eastern Atlantic off of northern Morocco/southern Spain and the Canary Islands. The only record since then is an occurrence off the Canary Islands in 1970. No further records of this species exist. It has been found at depths down to 170 m.

Habitat and Ecology:This species is known from depths to 170 m. It has also been recorded from trawls at depths of  740 - 3,460 m, but it is suspected that these specimens were caught at shallower depths as the net was brought to the surface.
