This species occurs in the Mekong basin in Lao PDR, Thailand, Viet Nam and probably Cambodia, where it is found in low population densities in fast flowing waters of the mainstream. This species is utilized as part of local subsistence fisheries. Anthropogenic modification of river morphology impacts this species by reducing or interrupting fast water flow. Logging, deforestation and agriculture occurs in the area, with associated impacts on the aquatic environment expected. No specific information is known on the population or impact of threats for this species and it is assessed as Least Concern because of its large geographic range.
