Taxonomic Notes: This species was described from the Mekong River in Stung Treng province, Cambodia (Ng 2003). Prior to its recognition as a distinct species, it has been misidentified as K. cryptopterus.

Range Description:The species is known from the Mekong (from the mouth upriver to Vientiane, Lao PDR), Mae Khlong (the mouth to at least Kanchanaburi), Bang Pakong (from the mouth to at least Prachinburi) and Chao Phraya (the mouth upriver to at least Ayutthaya) river drainages in mainland Southeast Asia (Ng 2003).
