S. imperioientis has been assessed as Vulnerable as the species is found in only one location, and habitat degredation through infrastructure development for tourism in this area is a potential threat to the species.

Range Description: S. imperiorientis is known only from the Nakama River, Iriomote Island, Japan. Iriomote Island is 282km², and the Nakama River is 17.5km long.

Habitat and Ecology: A benthopelagic fish, S. imperiorientis prefers to inhabit areas of boulders with a rock and gravel bottoms in clear streams.

Major Threat(s): Tourism on Iriomote Island is a potential cause of habitat degradation, and is therefore a threat to S. imperiorientis; boat trips are currently operating on the Nakama River.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: The whole of Iriomote Island is within the Iriomote National Park (IUCN category V) and is designated a Forest Ecology Conservation Area, however this does not provide much protection for A. imperiorientis and possibly adds to the potential for tourism to affect the species.
