Scientific Name: Imperturbatia constans (Martens, 1898)

Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Endangered B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) ver 3.1
Year Published: 2009
Date Assessed: 2006-01-11
Annotations:
Needs updating
Assessor(s): Gerlach, J.
Reviewer(s): Miller, R.M., Pollock, C.M. & Seddon, M.B.
Justification:
This species has a restricted range (EOO = 60 km² and AOO = 20 km²), and is known from only 3 locations. Habitat degradation is currently ongoing, as a result of non-native plant species which have invaded this species' habitat. To date, it appears to be stable and tolerant of current levels of habitat degradation. Nonetheless, as future impacts of non-native invasives are uncertain and habitat degradation is ongoing, this species is assessed as Endangered (EN B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii)).

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:This snail inhabits high altitude forest, from 350-900 m.
Systems:Terrestrial
Continuing decline in area, extent and/or quality of habitat:Yes

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): The main threat to this species is habitat degradation, caused by invasive non-native species (e.g., Cinnamomum verum) which impact this snail's habitat. Small-scale wood and farming plantations caused habitat deterioration in the past.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: This species is present in Morne Seychellois National Park. Research is needed into the species' life history and ecology, and invasive species must be controlled.
