Range Description:Flies at high altitudes in the Hindu Kush of north-eastern Afghanistan and the Pamir mountains of  south eastern Tadzhikskaya S.S.R. (Collins and Morris, 1985)

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:Young stages feed on Fumariaceae and Corydalis adiantifolia, grows on steep, rocky slopes and cliffs at altitudes around 3000m. Adults emerge around the second week of July and are on the wing for four weeks (Collins and Morris, 1985)

Major Threat(s): Habitat and foodplants may be damaged by heavy grazing of sheep and goats (Collins and Morris, 1985)

Conservation Actions: Given the global and regional population trends, P. autocrator was listed on Afghanistan’s first Protected Species List in 2009, banning all hunting and trading of this species within Afghanistan.
