Range Description: Rarest of all the snakes in the Japanese fauna and endemic to the upper parts of three narrow streams at highest point of the Island of Kumejima west of Okinawa (S-I, Oeno, pers comm 1996)

Population: Only about a dozen individuals have hitherto been caught or seen diminishing size on smaller islands for an unkown reason. (S-I, Ueno, pers comm 1996)
