Taxonomy [top]

Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family
Animalia Chordata Actinopterygii Salmoniformes Salmonidae

Scientific Name: Oncorhynchus formosanus (Jordan & Oshima, 1919)
Taxonomic Notes: Eschmeyer records this species as a synonym of Oncorhynchus masou. FishBase records the species as O. masou formosanus following Shen (1993). Kottelat (pers. comm., 2001) treats this as a good species for the reasons discussed in Kottelat (1997) for European salmonids. Treated as subspecies by Taiwanese authors, but does not make biological sense. It is a diagnosable lineage, endemic to Taiwan. So, left as a valid species.
