It is found in a very limited stretch of stream (about 1 km) in the Chornaya drainage below the Chornaya Gorge, which, if water abstraction continues to intensify, may totally dry up in the summer time. The species is also susceptible to climate change as the severity of droughts is predicted to increase.

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology:Habitat:
A wide variety of habitats. Chornaya is a medium-sized stream with a flow of about 10 m3/s. The inhabited stretch is about 25 km long. In its lower part, water is extracted in large quantities for irrigation and the stream is almost dry in summer.

No data.

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): High levels of water abstraction, leaving very low levels of water in spring and summer. The abstraction rate is likely to increase so the river below Chornya Gorge may end up dry. Currently the river only runs for about 1km below Chornaya Gorge in spring. Climate change also poses a threat to the species as the severity of droughts are predicted increase.
