L. nigricauda has been assessed as Endangered because it has a restricted range; this species is only found in one location, a lake of approximately 300 km² with continuing decline in the quality of the habitat of L. nigricauda.

Range Description:	L. nigricauda is endemic to China, and is found only in Lake Dianchi, Yunnan Province. The lake is approximately 300 km².
