Justification: Listed as Least Concern as the population was estimated by East (1999) at more than 100,000 animals. Recent reports from Sudan suggest that White-eared Kobs survive in good numbers, despite years of civil war. An aerial survey carried out by WCS in 2007 produced a population estimate for part of southern Sudan of >753,0000. Nonetheless, there remains a need for a detailed assessment of the population status of this subspecies, and for improved protected of floodplains east of the Nile River. |
