| Range Description: | This species occurs eastern Bolivia to northeastern Brazil (Eisenberg and Redford, 1999; Woods and Kilpatrick, 2005). The type locality is restricted to Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil (Eisenberg and Redford, 1999). |

It does not have specific habitat requirements; it does not occur in forest (Lacher pers. comm.). In northeastern Brazil, Greater Grisons (Galictis vittata) are major predators of rock cavies. |
