Taxonomic Notes: Specimens from near the source of the Zambezi and in northern tributaries lack the enlarged dorsal fin and are more fusiform. Genetic analysis is needed (Tweddle et al. 2004).

Conservation Actions: The species has some protection in the Zambezi National Park above Victoria Falls.
