| Habitat and Ecology: | Most abundant in small, flowing, well-vegetated tributaries and also fairly common in the vegetated margins of main river channels, from which it colonises floodplain habitats during the floods (Tweddle et al. 2004). Feeds on insects and periphyton. Breeds in summer, laying eggs on submerged vegetation, breeding males turning golden (Skelton 2001). |
