Population Trend: Unknown

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: Barbus barotseensis is a benthopelagic species. It inhabits shallow calm waters amongst vegetation, along the river edge (Bell-Cross and Minshull 1988, Tweddle et al. 2004). Ripe adults were caught undertaking upstream migration on a possible spawning run in mid summer after the first rise in water level (Bell-Cross and Minshull 1988).
Systems: Freshwater

Threats [top]

Major Threat(s): Given the wide distribution and extensive suitable habitat, there are no major threats to this species.

Conservation Actions [top]

Conservation Actions: Research into population numbers and range for this species is needed, as well as its biology and ecology. In Zambia, its known distribution falls partially within the Kasanka National Park around Lake Bangweulu.
