Scientific Name: Bathyclarias ilesi
Species Authority: Jackson, 1959
Taxonomic Notes: This species is distinguished from other species in the genus by the black mucus that covers the fish. M. Banda (unpublished PhD thesis) proposes that this species is a junior synonym of B. nyasensis.

Justification:
Endemic to Lake Malawi where the only records are more the Nkhata Bay area. More surveys are required to determine if this reflects the true distribution of the species.
