It is piscivorous. In the southwestern arm of the lake, ripe individuals were caught at 10 m depth suggesting a rather shallow spawning. Sexual maturity for females in this species was reached at 16 cm standard length and fecundity ranged from 267–627 for females weighing between 294-588 g. Known as "Haplochromis Lepturus Green" in the aquarium trade.
