| Habitat and Ecology: | Frequently observed in shallow water in vegetated sand habitats. A predator feeding on small fishes as well as invertebrates. Territorial males defend a small nest among the vegetation or in the open sand. Known as "Haplochromis Sunset" in the aquarium trade. |
