Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Critically Endangered   A2ce   ver 3.1
Year Published: 2006
Assessor/s: Crivelli, A.J.
Reviewer/s: Carmona, J. & Elvira, B. (Mediterranean Workshop, Dec. 2004)
Justification:
C. lusitanicus has a very restricted range, is severely fragmented and has shown a continuous decline of over 80% in the past 10 years due to water extraction, drought and the introduction of exotic fish predators (Carmona, J. and Elvira, B. pers comm).
History:
1996 Vulnerable
1996 Vulnerable
1994 Rare (Groombridge 1994)

Geographic Range [top]

Range Description: It is restricted to the western tributaries of the Tejo basin, and in some small occidental (Sado and Samarra rivers) and southern (Mira and Arade rivers) Portuguese basins.
