Scientific Name: Haplochromis laprogramma
Species Authority: Greenwood & Gee, 1969

Assessment Information [top]

Red List Category & Criteria: Vulnerable   A1bce   ver 3.1
Year Published: 2006
Assessor/s: Bayona, J.D.R.
Reviewer/s: Snoeks, J. (Freshwater Fish Red List Authority) & Darwall, W. (Freshwater Biodiversity Assessment Programme)
Justification:
This species that has suffered a past population decline, however it is now showing signs of recovery based on the collections from Mwanza gulf, Mori Bay, Emin Pasha (Bayona et al. in press, Witte et al. 2000, Mrosso et al. in press). The past decline was thought to be due to predation by the Nile Perch Lates niloticusand eutrophication. The species appears to have now adapted to the new conditions.
