Justification:
Known from only three restricted locations in Lakes Bulera and Luhondo and the River Mukungwa (Upper Akagera system in North Rwanda) with an extent of occurrence of less than 5,000 km² and area of occupancy less than 500 km². Threatened by water turbidity (loss of habitat and decline in habitat quality) due to erosion on watershed, and mortality due to fisheries, this species is assessed as Endangered.

Only known from Lakes Bulera and Luhondo and the Mukungwa River (Upper Akagera system in North Rwanda) where it may have been introduced along with young Tilapias from Lake Bunyoni, Edward or George.
