Population [top]

Population: Matthes (1962) mentioned M. plagiostomus as a very rare species. However, according to Brichard (1978) it is widespread although not common. Uncommon in museum collections (Vreven, pers. obs.).

Habitat and Ecology [top]

Habitat and Ecology: Found in shallow coastal waters with a rocky bottom at depths of 1 to 4 m (Coulter 1991, Eccles 1992), with preference for rocky pebbles near sandy areas (Matthes 1962).
