Taxonomic Notes: This species hybridises in places with Breviceps mossambicus, leading to confusion about its distributional limits (Poynton and Broadley 1985). Breviceps adspersus pentheri in the Eastern Cape might be a distinct species L. Minter pers. comm.).

Range Description: This species ranges from northwestern Angola, through northern Namibia, southwestern Zambia, much of Botswana and Zimbabwe, to southern Mozambique, Swaziland, and South Africa as far south as Eastern Cape Province. It generally occurs below 1,400m asl.
