Justification: Lack of survey information led this species to being listed as Critically Endangered in 1996. A revision of current information in 2000 concluded that this species was now extinct (probably last seen in 1965). However, in 2005, a news release from The Nature Conservancy indicated that this species had been rediscovered by Stephanie Clark, a postdoctoral student, in the Cahaba River south of Birmingham. The rediscovery requires confirmation before the species can be reassessed, but it is likely to be Critically Endangered if it is still extant. |
