An epiphytic liana endemic to Ecuador, where it occurs on both sides of the Andes. Two of the three known subpopulations are on the eastern slopes of the Andes; the third is near Esmeraldas. Confirmed in the Reserva Ecológica Mache-Chindul and expected in the Parque Nacional Sumaco-Napo-Galeras and the Parque Nacional Llanganates. Described by Taylor (in Jørgensen and León-Yánez 1999) as known only from the type, but other Rubiaceae specialists have identified additional collections. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
