Justification:
A shrub endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from a single 1944 collection in Tungurahua province, in the Río Pastaza valley, along the road near the town of Río Negro. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network but expected in the Parque Nacional Sangay and the Parque Nacional Llanganates. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
