Justification:
A grass endemic to Andean Ecuador, where it is known from three locales at high-elevation superparamo. Recorded on the Chimborazo volcano, just above the refuge and inside the Reserva de Producción Faunística Chimborazo; at Cerro Yanaurco; and at the highest point on the Molleturo-Paragüillas road, inside the Parque Nacional Cajas. No specimens of this species are housed in Ecuadorean museums. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
