Justification:
A tree endemic to Andean Ecuador, where it is known only from two collections from Pichincha province. One is from Gualea and the other from an unknown locale. Both collections were made in the nineteenth century and the species has not been collected again. Not known to occur inside Ecuador’s protected areas network, but may be found inside the Reserva Ecológica Los Ilinizas or in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas. Considered Endangered by the IUCN in 1997 (Walter and Gillett 1998). Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
