Justification: A tree endemic to the western slopes of the Andes in Ecuador. Some of the 10 known populations are protected in the Reserva Ecológica Cotacachi-Cayapas, in the Awá indigenous territory, and in the Río Guajalito and Río Silanche private reserves. Silvicultural experiments have studied potential as a timber species (Pennington 1998). |
