Justification:
A tree endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from at least 30 populations in wet forests on the eastern slopes of the Andes and the Amazonian lowlands. Protected inside the Parque Nacional Yasuní (near Añangu), in the Parque Nacional Sumaco-Napo-Galeras, and in the Jatun Sacha private reserve, where it occurs in terra firme and riparian forest. In Jatun Sacha and surrounding areas the species is being used in agroforestry systems for nitrogen fixation and soil improvement. Apart from habitat destruction, no specific threats are known.
