Justification: A tree endemic to Ecuador, where it is known from at least ten populations in wet coastal forest. Protected in the Reserva Ecológica Mache-Chindul, and in the Bilsa, Río Silanche, and Río Palenque private reserves. Frequent in the Bosque Protector Loma Alta, where it has been incorporated in reforestation programs (C. Bonifaz, pers. comm.). Considered Endangered due to its small geographic range and the large-scale destruction of its habitat over the last 50 years. |
